Yerevan City welcomed the 1st Street Music's Day
On the 21st May 2016 in Yerevan city (Armenia) the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Armenia together with the Municipality of Yerevan City had organized the 1st Street Music's Day (SMD) when every fan of the music was invited to sing and perform on the streets of the Yerevan city.
This joyful musical idea was brought from Lithuania where the SMD this year was celebrated already for the 10th time. The 1st Armenian SMD was dedicated to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Armenia, and has become a part of the activities of Europe Day Month 2016 as well.
During the 1st Street Music Day the central streets of Yerevan - Northern Avenue, Opera Square, Charles Aznavour Square - were filled up with the great Armenian professional and amateur musicians who enthusiastically decided to join this new street event and to make an open-air musical festivity to the local and foreign listeners and all the fans of music gathered for the sip of the good music.
The musicians from the music bands “Small Bodies”, “New Breath”, “Blues Band”, the Union of the Authors and Musicians “Git Art”, Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory, Spendaryan music school, Kushnaryan music school as well from the other various Yerevan’s music schools dedicated 4 hours’ of the repertoires of their choice to the listeners and from 16 till 20 o’clock the streets of Yerevan were full of sounds of jazz, classical, pop, rock, poetry and other music styles.
The SMD was finalized the same night with the beautiful Grand Closing Concert where at the start of the event Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Armenia Erikas Petrikas had expressed his joy that the idea to bring a Lithuanian musical tradition – Street Music Day to Armenia was so successful due to the unconditional support and help from the Municipality of Yerevan City, HUJ volunteers, EU delegation in Armenia and sponsors. Ambassador Erikas Petrikas expressed his hope that this beautiful tradition started on the 21st May in Yerevan will find the path to the hearts of the Armenians and will become annual musical festivity.
The greeting words at the SMD final event were extended as well by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Garen Nazarian and Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Nerses Ter-Vardanyan as well Deputy Mayor of the Yerevan Mr. Aram Sukiasyan.
SMD Grand Closing Concert was started by the Lithuanian band 4FUN and followed by the famous Armenian musicians such as Levon Malkhasyan, Alexandropol Orchestra, Hayko, Dixin’ Yerevan, Aramo and Ema Petrosyan, Arsen Grigoryan, Satenik Hakobyan, String Quartet of State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, Nane Show Ballet which had played their best performances and the greatest hits to the large crowd gathered at the Ch. Aznavour Square.
At the event the Mayor of the Yerevan City Mr. Taron Margaryan as well as the other prominent Armenian political, cultural, art society representatives, members of the diplomatic corps residing in Yerevan and Armenian media took part.
