Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania J. Survila in Yerevan: "Lithuania is ready to make every effort to strengthen Armenia's sovereignty and to achieve lasting peace in the region"
On 22 February, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Jonas Survila visited Yerevan on a working visit. The Deputy Minister of Lithuania met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the National Assembly Arman Yeghoyan and Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Lithuania Arsen Torosyan.
The bilateral relations between Lithuania and Armenia, the strengthening of cooperation between Armenia and the EU, the security situation in the South Caucasus region and the process of peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia's efforts to diversify security and energy partnerships, reducing dependence on Russia, were discussed at the meetings.
Deputy Minister J. Survila emphasized the importance of intensive bilateral political dialogue, expressed Lithuania's support for the democratic government of Armenia, which is increasingly striving for closer relations with the West, and for Armenia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Armenia's commitment to a comprehensive reform agenda based on democracy, transparency and the rule of law was discussed. Lithuania's readiness to continue and expand assistance for the implementation of reforms in Armenia was highlighted.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the need to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan as soon as possible and to reach a peace agreement acceptable to both sides, based on democratic values and mutual respect for territorial integrity.
"Lithuania is ready to make every effort to strengthen Armenia's sovereignty, aiming for comprehensive development of the countries of the South Caucasus and lasting peace in the region," said Deputy Minister J. Survila.
