Lithuanian Ambassador met with the Minister of Environment of Armenia

On 15 February, Ambassador Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė met with the newly appointed Minister of Environment of Armenia Hakob Simidyan. Deputy Minister of the Environment Anna Mazmanyan also attended the meeting. The established partnership between Lithuania and Armenia in the fields of environmental protection and the fight against climate change was discussed, especially sharing the experience of recycling, reforestation and sustainable energy development.

Welcoming the successful implementation of the Lithuanian development cooperation project in the field of glass and plastic waste management system in 2020, Minister H. Simidyan asked to continue support in this area by helping to draft legislation for the establishment of an extended producer responsibility system in Armenia.

The Ambassador noted that Lithuania is interested in contributing to the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), thus this area will remain among the priority activities, as will the recycling promotion initiative or projects of experience sharing in the field of renewable energy resources.

I. Stanytė-Toločkienė thanked for the support of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia for the projects implemented by Lithuania. Minister H. Simidyan expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would cover even more sectors in the future.
