Lithuanian and Armenian economic cooperation has lots of unused potential

On 26th November 2015 in Vilnius (Lithuania) Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Mr Linas Linkevičius met with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Mr Karen Chshmaritian and the members of Lithuanian-Armenian Intergovernmental Economic Commission. The officials discussed the perspectives of economic cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius expressed hope that Lithuanian-Armenian Intergovernmental Economic Commission which’s 1st meeting will be held tomorrow, on 27th November 2015, will serve to the strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation. Both ministers expressed their joy regarding the raise of the bilateral Lithuanian-Armenian trade which in last five years had increased five times.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius noted that economic missions between two countries had proved a growing bilateral interest in Lithuanian and Armenian trades, and the potential for the bilateral economic cooperation must be used.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius had stressed the country’s interest to export Lithuanian food products, gadgets of electricity and renewable energy, medical equipment, services of information technologies and logistics to Armenia.

Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy had also welcomed Armenia’s start in the negotiations with the European Union on the Framework Agreement and expressed his hope that the negotiations will be constructive. Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius noted that Lithuania supports Armenia’s participation in the Eastern Partnership programme as well as encourages Armenia to take advantages from the sectorial cooperation and strengthen transport connections.
